TARMAC: Teaching about Applied Research in Memory & Cognition

Do you have an innovative, engaging and effective teaching method that you use for teaching applied aspects of cognitive psychology? Perhaps a great in-class demonstration, a well-received group activity, or an approach to assessment or feedback rooted in cognitive principles? Apply to present at the inaugural TARMAC symposium at SARMAC 2025 in Ireland, chaired by Dr Rob Nash, Head of Psychological Research at the National Institute of Teaching (England).

As experts in the field of applied cognition, many of our colleagues have developed wonderfully creative teaching and learning methods. At SARMAC 2025, we will create a space to share them. Presentations will be brief (~ 5-8 minutes), and their foremost aims are simply (1) to share good practices with colleagues, and (2) to inspire colleagues with ideas they can adapt in their own teaching. Where appropriate, presenters will highlight relevant evidence that underpins their methods, and any formal evaluations they may have conducted. Ideally, presenters will also provide materials that we will share with delegates on the TARMAC OSF page (e.g. sample handouts, slides or instructions).

The deadline to apply is March 3rd 2025 and we will aim to let all applicants know the outcome by mid-March, well in advance of the closing of the Early Bird Registration on April 1st.

All are welcome to apply - whether you are already speaking at SARMAC or not, whether you are a SARMAC member or not, whether you are an experienced professor or a student teaching assistant. If you have a fun idea, we're keen to hear from you!
